My Portfolio
Welcome to my portfolio. Where good stories attain greatness. Explore my projects to glimpse at my touch.

As one of my first anthologies, I honed the diverse stories of varied literary proficiency to unite their experiences as Black women. After a content edit, line edit, and proofread, it became a vital read for inspiration of our sisterhood as women of color.

This book started as a guide to elevation within the Black community. An album of triumphs emerged by merging the various styles, syntactical patterns, and prose, as well as fixing grammar or punctuation errors. I also worked with the authors to bare their insides so their stories of tribulation and evolution played a universal melody, resonating well enough to sell over 1,000 copies in a few days.

In Ascension of the Kings, alongside its documentary, I am proud I amplified these Black men’s experiences, often hidden and ignored by broader society, and themselves. Like the other anthologies, their narratives ranged from mental illness, single fatherhood, molestation, and assimilation. They affirmed that no matter how stony the road we trod, we can lift every voice and sing for better days.

It was a pleasure to work with renowned photographer Ferrell Phelps to bring light to personal stories of resilience against prejudice. While I eliminated spelling and grammar errors and reworded things for clarity, I maintained the spirit of inclusivity by allowing each author’s idiosyncrasies to shine. This photography book went beyond artistic pictures, platforming the voices of those with different skin colors and conditions and advocating for self-love and acceptance.

The second in a series, we enriched upon its predecessor’s foundation. This volume, accompanied by a larger gala and exhibit, furthered the fight against prejudice. I continued enhancing clarity and impact while uplifting each author’s unique qualities. The book also helped launch a modeling agency to expand diversity nationwide.

In the last of The Skin I’m In series, we had some singular challenges. We collaborated not merely with the authors, but with the broader communities with whom they interlocked. I persisted in enhancing sentence construction, flow, and general mechanics but included a sensitivity to the global reach the project and the book had attained. While this required endless rounds of edits of every kind, the final result highlighted how no color, skin condition, or disability could undermine our shared humanity.

I had the opportunity to fine-tune some provocative poems by a talented poet. The book navigates social issues of Blackness and humanity while recognizing the human condition’s need for inspiration. My process ensured the impact and succinctness of each line so the book could support the publishing team’s work and the author’s message.

I loved sharpening student narratives from ages twelve to eighteen. I focused primarily on precision, readability, and consistency across the varied stories. The authentic voices of the young authors spanned genres as science fiction and fantasy mixed in with thriller and non-fiction. The anthology showcased their talents and gave me a challenge I’ll always treasure.

I view this anthology as one of the honors of my career. I had the unique opportunity to refine the collective work of professional women artists and writers, each adding a single stroke to an elegant masterpiece. Nitza Agam unified these diverse voices, and with some slight trimmings, I worked with a team of amazing women to ensure a seamless reading experience and exhibit the creative goddess within each of us.

Storytelling has a transformative power. With every enhancement to rhythm, pacing, and flow, a profound narrative formed to compel readers everywhere. The book delves into the impact of a child, battered yet undefeated, who tests the fabric of a family and makes them anew. Stacy’s resilience as a step-grandmother and Jacah’s health struggles tell us never to give up, even when the odds move against us.

Fulfilling this author’s final wish was an absolute privilege. I meticulously fact-checked and added citations to guarantee historical integrity while tidying the syntax, grammar, and style. Ernie Jackson spent his life in service to his community, and I fought to preserve his legacy through his candid exploration of Black radio’s rise and fall, commitment to AIDS awareness, and love of nature photography.

Susan Fair has a concise and direct style, so the main challenge was transforming a thesis into a textbook. I cleaned up the text and created an extensive index to ensure accessible material. The result supported learners and leaders in chaplaincy with a comprehensive guide to inclusive caregiving practices.
